Lumbini, Jan 27: A team headed by
the President of Finance Committee under the House of Representatives visited
Lumbini on Sunday.
The team of federal lawmakers led
by Committee President Santosh Chalise visited the Mayadevi Temple in Lumbini
and expressed concern over the snail-paced development of Lumbini.
Member-Secretary of Lumbini
Development Trust Sanu Raja Shakya welcomed the lawmakers.
Following the visit, Finance
Committee member Surya Thapa said they were concerned about the development of
Lumbini since it is a holy pilgrimage site for Buddhists and peace workers of
the world.
He said that 88 percent of the Lumbini
master plan has been executed and pledged to draw attention to the lack of
budget constraining the completion of remaining works.
On the occasion, Member Secretary
Shakya briefed the lawmakers about the remaining works of Lumbini master plan
and the recent activities taking place in Lumbini region.
Informing about the archaeological,
religious and cultural significance of Lumbini, Shakya said he also drew the
attention of the lawmakers to the declining volume of budget for Lumbini in
recent years.
The team offered prayers at the Mayadevi Temple, the holy Pushkarani Pond, the Ashoka Pillar and some monastery areas. (RSS)
