KDC orders release of RSP prez Lamichhane on bail of Rs. 6mln

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jan 15: The Kathmandu District Court has issued an order to release former Home Minister and president of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Rabi Lamichhane on bail of six million rupees. 

A single bench of Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari issued the order. A case was filed against Lamichhane over misappropriation of savings of Swarnalaxmi Multi-Purpose Cooperative. 

The District Government Attorney, Kathmandu, had lodged the case against Lamichhane and 38 others demanding for recovery of Rs. 1.19 billion from them for the misuse of the funds of the cooperative. 

Lamichhane was sent to judicial custody of the Kathmandu Police Range, Bhadrakali, on Sunday.

On behalf of Lamichhane, senior advocates-- Sushil Panta and Raman Shrestha had debated the case.

Previously, in another case involving Suryadarshan Cooperative in Pokhara, the Kaski District Court had ordered Lamichhane’s release on bail of Rs 6.5 million.
