Ajima and 6 Gender to be screened in Dhangadhi

blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 6: The documentary Ajima and 6 Gender will be shown in the cinema halls of Dhangadhi, Surkhet and Nepalgunj.

Producer and former Constituent Assembly member, Sunil Babu Pant informed that the screening is scheduled for 11:30 am at STS Cinema Hall, Dhangadi on January 6.

Likewise, the screening is scheduled for 1:00 am at Cineroyale Hall on January 7 and 3:00 pm at LCM Cinema Hall, Surkhet on January 8.

The entry would be free, said Pant, adding, “Following the screening, a discussion on matriarchal traditions will also be held.”

According to Pant, the documentary particularly highlights how patriarchal systems can suppress the sexuality of women and sexual and gender minorities.

It presents the matriarchal framework that recognises six genders and offers an inclusive understanding of human diversity, he added.

The documentary reflects on a time when wise women governed and protected society when Tantra and other spiritual practices flourished, and when people from all backgrounds coexisted peacefully, transcending caste and sexual identities.

However, the history of Kathmandu and Nepal as a whole has been rewritten and revised numerous times by invading patriarchal forces, each time imposing their beliefs and morals while eroding matriarchal values and practices, as depicted in the documentary.

The documentary, which already had special screenings in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Hetauda, will now be screened in Dhangadhi, Surkhet and Nepalgunj.
