Literary award to Dr Radha Paudel

Kathmandu, Jan 4: Rights activist and writer Radha Paudel has been awarded the “Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota Literary Prize-2081 BS.”     

The award was presented to her during a ceremony at the Nepal Academy on Saturday. Paudel, a prominent rights activist and advocate for dignified menstruation, was recognized for her outstanding contributions to social transformation and her efforts to elevate the country's image through relentless advocacy for dignified menstruation at national and international levels.     

Her work includes research, articles, and literary books that explore women's sentiments. She won the Madan Prize for her book 'Khalangama Hamala (Attack in Khalanga)', a war memoir, and the Utsav (Celebration) is her latest fiction dedicated to girls.     

Presented by the Nityaraj Pandey Pragya Pratishthan (Academy), Kathmandu, the award carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000. Paudel is the first female recipient of the award in the 10-year history of the Academy.     

Paudel donated the prize money to Shiksha Nepal, an organization dedicated to ensuring that `no child in rural and underprivileged areas of Nepal is deprived of their right to education.´ The Madan Prize laureate expressed that every recognition for her work holds significant value. (RSS)
