By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 4: Nepal Police Club (NPC) emerged victorious in their first game of the ANFA Women’s League 2024 final round defeating Waling Municipality at ANFA Complex in Satdobato, Lalitpur, on Friday.

Waling struggled against the departmental club throughout the 90 minutes when the two met on Match Day 2 of the final round. Furthermore, Police scored five goals against Waling while keeping a clean sheet.

Anuska Sherpa opened the score for NPC in the 26th minute. She was assisted inside the 6-yard-box from the right flank by Nirmala Upadhyaya.

Waling was about to end the first half giving only a one-goal lead to NPC. However, in the five minutes of additional time, Samjhana Lawati scored a banger from the right flank, this time from outside the 18-yard box, and made it 2-0 at the end of the first half.

NPC was not pressing as much as they could against Waling because whenever Police players got excited, Waling was destroyed. When the second half began, Waling was expected to put up a better challenge, but they failed.

Police made it 4-0 in less than four minutes since the beginning of the second half. Puja Rana made it 3-0 in the 46th minute capitalising on a confusion in the opponent’s box. Two minutes later, Sherpa scored her second, this time on an assist by Lawati.

The fifth goal of NPC came in the 60th minute. Lawati made it 5-0 with a freekick from around 22 yards away. Scoring two bangers and making an assist, Lawati was adjudged the player of the match.

The win was a boost for NPC head coach Bhola Nath Silwal. Silwal lifted the Lalit Memorial U18 Youth League 2024 title with NPC’s U-18 team at the same ground three days ago. He stated that he was eying the ANFA Women’s League title as well.

Defending champion APF will be opening their campaign in the final round on Saturday against Bagmati Youth Club.
