By Rajan Rawat, Humla, June 4: The Sunkhani Police Post in Limi, a trans-Himalayan village in Namkha Rural Municipality-6 bordering China, has been re-established after remaining closed for seven months.
The police post, which was shut down in December due to heavy snowfall and extreme winter conditions, resumed operations in the third week of May.
According to Inspector Bishnu Shrestha, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Humla, the Sunkhani Police Post in Limi was officially re-opened on Tuesday.
Police personnel stationed there had returned to the District Police Office in the first week of December after the post was closed for the winter season.
The police post is routinely closed during winter because of the severe cold, difficulties in securing food and accommodation for officers, the absence of significant incidents, and the suspension of travel and transport links in the area.
Inspector Shrestha said the post was re-established after snow was cleared from the Nyalu Pass, restoring road access to Limi.
Police personnel assigned to the outpost return to the district headquarters each winter after the facility is temporarily closed. A team of 11 personnel, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Man Bahadur Deuba, travelled to Limi and reinstated the police post.
Following the reopening of the Nyalu route, visitors have also begun travelling to Lapcha to view Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar from a distance. With movement and human activity increasing in the area, police officers have now returned to the Limi outpost.
