Jumla, Nov. 17: Gopthada village in Tatopani Rural Municipality-2, Jumla, remains without a single local who has passed the Secondary Education Examination (SEE).

Home to 25 households, the village has faced persistent educational challenges despite repeated efforts to improve the situation.

Bahadur Dangi, a local said that despite various attempts no student has successfully cleared the SEE.

The village has a school that operates up to grade three, after which students must enroll in Him Shikhar High School in Tatopani or other schools for further studies.

However, most students drop out after grade eight or nine, leaving the village without appearing SEE exam.

Teachers for the Paikela Basic School, are hired from the neighbouring areas, as no local has yet passed SEE.

Principal Bal Bahadur Rawal of Paikela Basic School noted that while no local student has passed SEE, two married women from other villages residing in Gopthada have successfully passed the examination.

Currently, two students from Gopthada are enrolled in grade nine. Mahesh Dangi is studying at Him Shikhar High School in Tatopani, while Bishnumaya Dangi is attending Chandannath Secondary School in Jumla’s headquarters.

Surat Bahadur Shahi, chief of the Education Branch of Tatopani Rural Municipality, highlighted the need for orientation programmes and prioritising parental education to address the village’s educational challenges.

Ward-2 Chairman Chandraman Budha stated that the municipality has recently provided tuition support for the students.

He added that many students from Gopthada leave their studies to migrate to India for work.

The ward council has pledged to assess the educational situation and take steps to address the issue.

As the district nears its declaration as a fully literate district, local officials stress the importance of finding solutions to tackle Gopthada’s educational problems.
