Chitwan, April 20: Seventeen nests of Gharial have been found along the Rapti River in Chitwan. The Chitwan National Park launched a search for crocodile nests along the river area on March 15.
CNP information officer Abinash Thapa Magar said that two local boatmen were mobilized to trace the nests. Based on information provided by the boatmen, the CNP will begin collecting crocodile eggs from April 23.
He said that the identification of nests has now been completed, and a decision will be made on which nests will be selected for egg collection for breeding crocodile hatchlings at the Crocodile Breeding Centre in Kasara. In previous years, nests were searched along both the Rapti and Narayani rivers, but this time the search was carried out only in the Rapti River. (RSS)
