By TRN Online, Kathmadnu, April 22:  Three homeless and vulnerable individuals have been rescued from the Swayambhu area in Kathmandu and placed at the Manavsewa Ashram.

Among those rescued, a 44-year-old woman’s identity and address remain unknown, though her health condition is reported to be normal.

A 70-year-old man from Lamjung and man, aged 55,  from Nuwakot were also rescued. Both are in stable condition, although the man from Nuwakot has sustained an injury to his hand.

The rescue operation is part of Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s ongoing campaign to make the capital free of street-dependent individuals.

The initiative is being carried out in coordination with Nepal Police and the Manavsewa Ashram.

Authorities said that while many genuinely vulnerable individuals are being rescued, some people engaged in begging evade rescue efforts, indicating that begging has become a profession for them.

People of different ages and backgrounds are often seen asking for money in public places such as squares, alleys, parks, heritage sites, and other crowded areas.

The goal of the campaign is to ensure humane management of such individuals and ultimately make the streets free from begging.

The program includes rescuing individuals from the streets, conducting screenings, and facilitating family or social reintegration based on their condition, or providing shelter at ashrams when necessary.

Previously, six individuals were rescued from the Pashupati area, two from Kalimati, and one from Teku under the same initiative.
