MoHP unveils 100-day performance

Kathmandu, Oct 20: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) made public a report detailing its performance and achievement in the last 100 days.

The outcomes reflect the resolutions and priorities Minister for Health and Population had outlined upon assuming the office.     

The notable achievements include timely emergency services across all public health facilities, expansion of cancer treatment services in all seven provincial hospitals, extension of heart disease treatment services in provincial hospitals in Madhesh and Gandaki Provinces and introduction of token system in the provincial hospitals to facilitate the patients.     

The progress report stated that OPD services have been implemented in two-shifts in over a dozen of public hospitals including Bir Hospital, and Kanti Children Hospital, among others.     

Free treatment facility for burn cases for those unable to afford the treatment cost is another in the list. The service will be available in the designated hospitals in all seven provinces. According to which, Bir Hospital has started burn treatment with 15-bed in a separate ward.     

The progress include commencement of OPD for mental health services for new and expecting mothers as well as beginning of 'newborn screening' for genetic diseases among the newborn at the Paropakar Maternity Hospital.     

Furthermore, there has been a significant improvement in the availability of medicines at pharmacies of federal hospitals, increasing from 60 percent to 90 percent, the report stated.     

Six new pharmacy counters were set up in various hospitals to streamline the influx of patients, shared Dr Prakash Budhathoki, Spokesperson at the MoHP.     

Likewise, a 35-bed IPD services were launched at Geta Hospital in Kailali.     

A tripartite agreement was inked among the MoHP, Ministry of Education and Science Technology, and the Medical Education Commission to manage health sector related human resources, Spokesperson Budhathoki added.     

According to the Ministry, an integrated inventory of medical tools, equipments have been prepared after surveying 14 federal hospitals, 6 provincial hospitals and 60 district hospitals.     

At the initiatives of the MoHP, transportation fare is to be waived for the Female Community Health Volunteers in public transport for their work-related commute.     

Moreover, public awareness campaigns about cancer have been broadcasted in more than 300 cinema halls across the country. To improve public health, Citizens Arogya Programme was implemented at 304 local levels, it was said.     

The report, underscoring the Ministry's efforts to enhance health services and improve public health, unveiled that screening of ovarian cancer was conducted among 8,678 women while awareness contents about breast cancer were broadcasted for 189 times in radio and 70 times in television in 15 different languages in the last 100 days.(RSS)
