Baglung, Oct 10: A kite flying competition has been organized here in connection with observing the Dashain festivities. The event has drawn children, youths and the elderly enthusiasts. The competition was organized under the aegis of Rotract Club of Baglung at the local Dhawalagiri Campus ground.
Rakesh Sharma of Baglung has won the competition and bagged a cash prize of Rs 5,555 while Babin Shakya stood second in the kite flying contest, Club president Saurav KC said. Altogether 17 contestants had participated.
The Club has presented gifts to all the contestants. Besides the contestants, other enthusiasts had also enjoyed the kite flying. "The Changa Chet programme has been organized with the objective of keeping alive the tradition of flying kites and of providing entertainment to the youths and children through the kite-flying competition," KC said, addressing the prize distribution programme.
The event also provides an occasion for the people to enjoy and share happiness amidst the Dashain festivities, he added.
According to him, the practice of flying kites in and around Dashain time has been on the wane in the recent days due to rapid urbanization and lack of open spaces. The kite is taken as the symbol of happiness and merriment. (RSS)
