By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 10: The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) International Coordinating Council, on Wednesday, donated Rs. 5.1 million to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.

The delegation, led by association president Dr. Badri KC, presented the funds at the Prime Minister’s Residence in Baluwatar.

Dr. KC expressed sadness over the recent floods, landslides, and inundation, announcing that in addition to this donation, relief efforts totalling Rs. 10 million will be directed to affected areas. He also raised concerns about challenges related to utilizing 'NRNA citizenship' for economic and social initiatives.

Prime Minister Oli expressed gratitude for the humanitarian assistance and clarified that while all Nepalis retain their identity, those who acquire foreign citizenship lose their political rights in Nepal. He emphasised the need for serious discussions to address the issues surrounding dual citizenship.

Prime Minister Oli expressed his long-standing interest in the role of non-resident Nepalis in Nepal's prosperity, urging that those who go abroad for work should not be classified under the NRNA definition. He recommended that the association be developed as a unified organisation for all non-resident Nepalis, rather than a politically affiliated group.

Meanwhile, Salt Trading Corporation Limited Chairman Pradeep Lal Shrestha donated Rs. 6 million, Electricity Production Company Limited Chairman Suresh Acharya contributed Rs. 646,500 from the company and its employees, and Nepal Insurance Company in India transferred Rs. 1 million to the relief fund.
