National Book Policy crucial in the development of reading culture: Education Minister

Kathmandu, Oct 7: Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Bidhya Bhattarai, has said the role of the proposed National Book Policy will be crucial in the development of a reading culture.     

During the submissions on the proposed National Book Policy-2081 BS by experts from diverse fields at the Ministry today, the Minister said the Policy was proposed to promote the reading culture and libraries. As she said, writers and publishers could be recognized as human capital.     

She also shared about the government's plan to bring the Library Act.     

During the programme, lawmaker Manish Jha pressed the idea of ensuring book reading facilities not only in academic institutions but also in hotels and restaurants as well.     

Demanding international access to Nepali books, he insisted on the need for an enabling atmosphere to ensure wider access to quality books.     

 Representatives from publication houses, book suppliers, and libraries were there to submit their opinions regarding the proposed policy.(RSS)
