By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Sept 26: Daily publications of the
Gorkhapatra Corporation, the Gorkhapatra and The Rising Nepal, have come out to
be the first and second in the coverage of news related to the women politicians.
According to the report of a survey conducted by the Media Advocacy
Group (MAG) unveiled on Thursday, the Gorkhaptara and The Rising Nepal ranked the
first and second with 25.5 and 17.7 per cent coverage on women politicians respectively.
MAG chairwoman Anita Bindu
presented today the finding of the survey at a training programme - Capacity
Enhancement Training for Women Journalists in Political and Foreign Affairs
Reporting.
Out of 3,176 political news published in between January-March 2023, there were 192 (6.04%) news items related to women politician, according to the MAG report.
The report
showed that Kantipur had 11.5, Annapurna Post 12.5, Naya Patrika 8.3, The
Kathmandu Post 11.5, The Himalayan Times 6.8, My Republica 5.7 per cent
coverage of women politician.
51 per cent
of news of women politician got front page space, 41 per cent in inside page
and 4 per cent each in editorial and op-ed pages, according to the MAG survey
report.
The report showed that more women journalists compared to men journalists were involved in writing the news about women politicians- 61% women journalist compared to 30% men journalists.
