By Rajkumar Bhattarai,Khotang, Sept. 13: Police have conducted a 113-kilometre-long patrol along the Mundhum trail.

The District Police Office of Khotang undertook the patrol to review the security situation, safety measures for tourists travelling along the Mundhum Trail, and other related matters.

The police patrol, which began from Deurali in Bakachol, Aiselukharka Rural Municipality-2, in Khotang, crossed the Mundhum Trail and concluded at Badung Chyandanda in Sakela Rural Municipality-1.

The patrol was carried out to assess the security situation along the Mundhum Trail, the safety measures for tourists and to develop future security strategies, according to DSP Purushottam Khadka for the District Police Office, Khotang.

He said that this patrol was considered the longest patrol ever conducted by the district police office as of date.

The police patrol team travelled through Deurali, Dharmapeak, Ghyangkharka, Burchopeak, Chekuwa, Kulupongkho Pass, Salpa Pokhari, Silichung Peak, and continued through various routes including the exit of the Mundhum Trail, Handidpokhari, Laure Tham, Lauri Bhir, Balaute Bhanjyang, Satdobato, Hanspokhari, Dhodre, Dalsinge and Chakhewabhjyang before ending at Badung.

During the patrol, the police team interacted with the operators and caretakers of the local sheep, goat, and cattle sheds at the respective locations regarding the peace and security situation of the area.

The police also informed internal tourists travelling the Mundhum Trail about various security aspects.

The Mundhum Trail was conceptualised in 2018 to promote tourism in the scenic areas of Salpa Pokhari, Silichung, and other spots along the border of Khotang and Bhojpur districts such as Chakhewabhanjyang, Maiyungdanda, Hanspokhari, Satdobato and Rawadhap.

The trail has particularly benefited visitors who come to see the famous religious and tourist sites of Salpa Pokhari and Silichung.
