By Our Correspondent,Nepalgunj, Sept.4: Health Office Banke has confirmed that the four persons in Gegli of Narainapur Rural Municipality-4 died of diarrhoea.

A team of the Health Office which reached Gegli on Monday to study the causes of the deaths of the four persons confirmed that diarrhoea killed them.

The team found that the deceased were dehydrated.

Earlier on Monday, a team of doctors led by the Chief District Officer of Banke visited Gegli village of Narainapur Rural Municipality on Monday.

Following reports of four deaths, including three from the same family, from diarrhoea near the Indian border in Narainapur-3,

Banke’s Chief District Officer Khagendra Prasad Rijal reached the village with doctors and medicines.

Head of Health Office Banke, Dhir Jung Shah, said that there was currently no severe case of diarrhoea in the area.

An investigation was conducted to determine whether the four deaths were due to diarrhoea or other causes, he added.

He mentioned that a team led by Public Health Officer Naresh Shrestha, the Information Officer of the Health Office, conducted the investigation.

According to the health office, a team of doctors is treating some locals in Gegli village for symptoms such as fever, headache and stomach pain.

Meanwhile, Yar Mohammad Khan, a ward member of Narainapur Ward-3 and a resident of the neighbouring Gegli village, reported that the four deceased had symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea, which were followed by fever and headache.

He informed that some villagers were still experiencing symptoms such as stomach ache, fever, headache and loose motion.

Khan said three members of the same family—Rusa Pasi, wife of Hariram Pasi; their daughter Nandani Pasi; and Shanti Pasi, wife of Mohan Lal Pasi—along with Yusuf, son of Sakhawat Ali, died of diarrhoea on Sunday.

Chairman of Narainapur Rural Municipality Ishtiaq Ahmed Shah reported that a child seriously ill from diarrhoea was sent to Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj for further treatment. His health is gradually improving, he added.

Additionally, another child was taken to India for treatment, he added.

Nagendra Kumar Shah, head of the health branch of Narainapur Rural Municipality, said that after receiving information about the diarrhoea outbreak in Gegli, he and a team of health workers arrived in the village on Sunday afternoon to provide treatment to the patients.

Health workers have suggested that the outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea in the village could be attributed to extreme heat and contamination of drinking water. They believe that the issues might be related to contaminated water during the rainy season.
