US Deputy Secretary Verma meets PM

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 17: Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources of the United States Richard Rahul Verma paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Friday. 

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the courtesy meeting was held between the two on Friday afternoon. Verma was on a one-day official visit to Nepal. 

During the meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, they discussed strengthening bilateral relations and exploring areas of mutual interest. 

Prime Minister Oli expressed his gratitude for the consistent support provided by the United States since the 1950s in Nepal’s economic and social development.

Prime Minister Oli expressed his anticipation for support in various areas of Nepal's development.

He highlighted Nepal’s ongoing efforts to transition out of its underdeveloped status by 2026 and briefed Verma about the progress of Nepal’s transitional justice law, which is being finalised based on political consensus.

Recalling the 77 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the United States, Deputy Secretary Verma expressed that it was a source of happiness for the United States to be a partner in Nepal’s development.

He also congratulated Nepal on the advancement of its transitional justice process.

The meeting was attended by Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Chief Personal Secretary Rajesh Bajracharya, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
