By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 16: Beyond Beijing Committee (BBC), Nepal is going to conduct a national women's conference and Bejing+30 parallel sessions on Friday in Lalitpur. Organising a press conference on Thursday, Krishna Kumari Waiba, chairperson of BBC, said that the programme would be held in Lalitpur in the presence of President Ramchandra Paudel.
Beyond Beijing Committee Nepal is a network of women-led organisations formed to conduct discourse on the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which includes some critical concerns related to human rights and the empowerment of women and the girl children.
A review of the programme will be conducted by the government, NGO and the private sectors on the women issues of the last five years before issuing the “Kathmandu Declaration”, said the organisers.
The “Kathmandu Declaration” will be used as an advocacy document across all levels of government in Nepal. This will help notify girls’ and women’s voices at national and international levels for advancing gender equality, and empowerment of girls and women.
The report will be finally presented to the United Nations' 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women.
The conference will see the participation of representatives from Dalits, indigenous peoples, Madhesi, Muslims, persons with disabilities, youth, older women, marginalised communities, sexual and gender minorities, experts from various (health, education, environment) fields, academia, professionals from different sectors, women human rights activists, civil society representatives and some government officials, Waiba said.
