Call for enforcement of right to information

Khajura (Banke), Aug 10: Stakeholders have call for increasing the exercise of the constitutionally-guaranteed right to information as it is the main tool for good governance.     

Various participants of the Lumbini province level two-day conference on 'Right to Information for Good Governance' said that the use of RTI should be increased from the citizen's level.     

As provided by the law, every public agency should publish information regularly in a transparent manner without hiding anything.     

On the occasion, members of the provincial assembly participating in the program said that all public bodies and citizens should be made aware of RTI to make its implementation effective.     

 Speaking at the inaugural session of the conference which started in Kohalpur on Friday, Speaker of Lumbini Province Tularam Ghartimagar urged to make the right to information a matter of priority while calling for a structure of National Information Commission at the provincial level as well.     

Commissioner of National Information Commission, Ratnaprasad Mainali, said that the right to information has contributed to holding the public bodies to account and making them transparent.     

Acting Secretary of the Commission, Yuvaraj Adhikari, presented a concept paper on the role and expectations of provincial assembly members in the implementation of the right to information while constitution expert Kashiraj Dahal talked about transparency, accountability and the interrelationship of the right to information.     

Senior journalist Taranath Dahal presented a concept paper on the use of digital technology and the interrelationship of the right to information.
