1144th Kirtipur Music Festival concludes

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 10: The 1144th Kirtipur Music Festival has been concluded.  The festival, held at the Kirtipur Cineplex Hall in Panga on Thursday, featured 40 artists who showcased their talents through songs and dances. It was organised to encourage local talents and honour creators while highlighting the art, culture, and identity of the nation.

Among the performers were artists such as Palpasa Dangol, ophthalmologist Dr. Kabindra Bajracharya, people’s poet Rajbhai Jhakmi, Bishwo Nepali, Bir Prasad Bhansari, Guje Malakar, Satish Maharjan, Mathura Maharjan, Narendra Maharjan, Ratna Shobha Maharjan, Ranisobha, and Raphael Maharjan, They all sang various songs. 

The festival also included dances like the Kumari and Aryatara dances, as well as performances on traditional instruments like the Khe baja and sarangi.

At the event, 93-year-old traditional music master Bhairaja Maharjan and 80-year-old Jogman Maharjan were honoured. 

Acting mayor of Kirtipur, Shubhalaxmi Shakya Maharjan, the consultant editor of Gorkhapatra Daily, Upesh Maharjan and social worker Shriram Maharjan, along with instrumental guru Dharma Munikar, presented them with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000, along with a ceremonial shawl and a certificate of appreciation.

Bijaylal Dangol, the chairman of the organising committee, Nepal Art and Culture Promotion Society, informed that the festival was organised to unite both new and veteran singers, musicians, and composers who have recorded songs in the Nepalbhasa and Nepali languages in Kirtipur.
