Govt approves list of nearly 300,000 poor families of 15 districts

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 30: The government has approved the final list of nearly 300,000 poor households from 15 districts.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on July 26 in Singha Durbar took the decision to this effect. A decision in this regard was made public on Monday by organising a press conference at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.  

Informing about the Cabinet decisions, Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung said the government had approved the final list of 271,640 poor families from 15 districts under Sub-clause 2 of Clause 15 of the ‘Poor Household Identification and Identity Card Distribution Guidelines-2019’ as proposed by the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation.

Minister Gurung, who is also the government spokesperson, said that the 15 districts include Okhaldhunga, Kanchanpur, Gulmi, Dolakha, Dhanusha, Nuwakot, Parsa, Bara, Baitadi, Manang, Mustang, Rupandehi, Saptari, Sarlahi, and Sindhupalchowk.

Chapter 4 of the ‘Poor Household Identification and Identity Card Distribution Guidelines 2019’ contains provisions for the approval of poor families and the distribution of identity cards. 

Clause 15 of Chapter 4 stipulates that if the list of classified poor families under Clause 13 needs to be revised, the revision should be submitted to the Cabinet for approval.

Sub-clause 2 states that after the Cabinet approves the proposal as per Clause 1, the Ministry will proceed with the process of issuing identity cards. 

With the approval for these 15 districts, the Ministry will now proceed with the process of issuing identity cards to poor households.

According to Minister Gurung, the Cabinet meeting also approved the 'Nepal University Infrastructure Development Preparation Committee  (Formation) (Second Amendment) Order 2024'.

Minister Gurung also said that the government had also  decided to accept concessional loan assistance of Rs. 13.33 billion to be provided by the World Bank for the implementation of the Provincial and Local Level Road Improvement Project.
