10 best poems of National Poetry Festival announced

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 24: Nepal Academy has announced 10 best poems of the Rastriya Kavita Mahotsav 2081 (National Poetry Festival 2024) held at Nepal Academy in Kathmandu on Sunday.

A press release issued by Member Secretary of Nepal Academy Dhana Prasad Subedi on Sunday afternoon, read that 6 poems written in Nepali and 4 poems in other languages were announced the best. Mato Ko Udan by Agra Awaj of Bardiya, Achel Kahan Harairaheka Chhan Bachchaharu by Anita Neupane of Makwanpur, Phool Ko Postmortem by Anjan Pradeep of Nawal Parasi, Aamako Anuhar by Rumani Kulung of Morang, Bagnu Ek Niyati by Sharmila Dulal of Lalitpur, Birsi Janeharu by Suman Sahayatri Yonghang of Panchthar, all in Nepali language, emerged as the best.

Other poems including Prasnak Bas in Tharu language by Chhabilal Kopila of Dang, Masinyiu Chhakalya in Magar language by Dilip Budha Magar of Rolpa, Bagarla Dungal in Tamang by Rupak Jamara Ghalan of Sindhuli, Ardu Thum Pyok in Khaling language by Rejina Khaling of Solukhumbu were also announced the victorious.

The winners will recieve a purse of Rs. 30,000 and certificate as the prize.

25 poems were shortlisted out of over 600 poems for the recitation.

National Poetry Festival had been announced multilingual since 2080 BS in which every language spoken in Nepal can compete. It is being organised on Asar 9 every year on the occasion of establishment day of Nepal Academy. Previously it was used to be held only in Nepli language and the first, second, third and two consolation prizes were used to be announced.

A jury was formed under the coordination of Baba Basnet, chief of Prose Department of the Academy in which poets Shrawan Mukarung, Mahesha Prasai, Avaya Shrestha, Keshav Silwal and Bimala Tumkhewa were members.

Earlier, the Festival was inaugurated by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Hit Bahadaur Tamang.
