Sunsari approves disaster preparedness plan

By Jaykrishna Yadav Inaruwa, June 18:The District Disaster Management Committee of Sunsari has approved the Disaster Preparedness and Management Plan and decided that disaster management committees and sub-committees at the municipal, village and ward levels should remain prepared for disaster response.

A meeting chaired by Ram Chandra Tiwari, committee chairman and Chief District Officer of Sunsari, approved the preparedness and natural disaster management plan to ensure safety from all disasters in the district.

Chief District Officer Tiwari said that following the approval of the plan, a committee under the coordination of the Assistant Chief District Officer has been formed to work according to the disaster response plan. 

He emphasised the need for preparedness at the district, municipal, village and ward levels.

CDO Tiwari also said that all committees and sub-committees need to be active according to the response plan, adopt caution in all risk areas and urged concerned local levels to clean drains to prevent flooding due to accumulated waste. 

He further urged everyone to clean rivers, streams, and roads. All stakeholders and participants present at the meeting expressed their commitment to fully dedicate themselves to their respective responsibilities according to the preparedness plan. 

The meeting mainly discussed topics such as cleaning rivers and streams, preventing water accumulation, raising public awareness, identifying risk areas, adopting caution and constructing embankments.

Considering the risks of floods, fires, and other natural disasters in Sunsari district, the meeting decided to strengthen safety measures and accordingly make necessary preparations.

The meeting emphasised prioritising public safety and making the dissemination of information and awareness effective. 

Representatives of political parties, social organisations, security personnel and journalists present at the meeting expressed their commitment to actively implement the decisions from their respective areas and participate as needed.

The District Administration Office, Sunsari, has made all necessary preparations to keep the public safe during this year's monsoon season and urged everyone to remain cautious.
