By Amar Raj Naharki,Tanahun, May 28: Anbu Khaireni Rural Municipality in Tanahun district has been bearing the education expenses of the children from the Chepang to ensure access to education to the marginalised community.
The Rural Municipality has started bearing all the expenses of all Chepang children up to class 12.
According to the Rural Municipality, it is supporting the Chepang children so that they will not deprived of access to education.
As per its decision, the rural municipality has been providing Rs. 60,000 to each student annually to meet their stationery, uniforms, food and other expenses.
The Rural Municipality has urged the parents of the Chepang children to submit applications to receive support. However, only two persons have applied for the assistance.
The Rural Municipality handed over Rs 40,000 to Amrit Chepang, a student of Class 11 at Ramshah Secondary School in Anbu Khaireni Bazaar and Rs. 15,000 to Sanjeev Chepang, a ninth grader.
Amrit had already received Rs. 20,000 as the first instalment at the rate of Rs. 5,000 per month and he recently received Rs. 40,000 as the second and third instalments. Likewise, Sanjib received Rs. 15,000 for the first three months of this academic year.
Handing over the amount, Shukra Chuman, chairman of Anbu Khaireni Rural Municipality, said that they helped change the income level of the marginalised communities by providing access to education.
Chairman Chuman said, "We have helped to ensure that no child is deprived of education as it is necessary to educate them so that they can be self-reliant in future.”
Chairman Chuman, said that it has been thinking to support them for their studies up to the graduate level in the future.
He said that funds have been provided to schools themselves to manage the students studying up to grade 10.
About 50 Chepang children are studying in class 10 and they have been provided with facilities by the school itself. Chuman said that only two applications were received as only a few students from the community continued their studies up to grade 12.
