Day Against Child Marriage celebrated in Janakpurdham

By Dharbendra Jha, Dhanusha, Apr 30: With the slogan 'Marriage only after the age of 20' the day against child marriage has been celebrated by organising various programmes in Janakpurdham.

After the declaration of Madhesh Province as Apr 29 as a day against child marriage, a number of programmes were organised on the occasion.

Sports and Social Welfare Ministry of Madhesh Province organized an adolescent dialogue programme in coordination with Life Nepal and Aasman Nepal.

As per the data given in the programme, 8.9 per cent marry before the age of 15, 29.3 per cent marry before 18, and 15.2 per cent marry between the ages of 15-19 years in the province.

Participants stressed the common efforts to end child marriage as it lies as a common problem of Madhesh province societies. 

In the programme, Madhesh Province's Sports and Social Welfare Minister Surita Sah said that the province government has prepared a 10-year strategic plan to stop child marriage and moved it for implementation. All eight districts' participants took part in the programme.
