High-level investors from UK to attend investment conference

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 29: A team of high-level investors from the UK will attend the investment conference to be held in Kathmandu in April.

During a courtesy meeting with Finance Minister Barsaman Pun on Thursday, British Ambassador to Nepal Rob Fenn said that British investors were willing to attend the investment conference in Nepal.

According to the Ministry of Finance, Ambassador Fenn praised Nepal for creating a friendly environment for foreign investment.

He requested Finance Minister Pun to clarify the policy regarding the double taxation system to the international community.

He said that they were also discussing and coordinating with the heads of missions of other countries in Kathmandu to make the investment conference a success.

"A high-level team of British investors is coming to Nepal for the investment conference," he said, “We are actively involved in making the investment conference successful."

Recalling that the Embassy has been conducting programmes targeted at education, health, infrastructure development and deprived communities, the British Ambassador expressed his commitment to continue them in the future as well.

 Ambassador Fenn appreciated Nepal's efforts to avoid the risk of falling on the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force.

During the meeting, Minister Pun highlighted Britain as Nepal’s old friend and important foreign partner and thanked the UK government for the support it has been providing over the decades.

He appreciated the role played by the British Embassy in Kathmandu to make the investment conference successful.

Stating that Nepal has adopted a policy of welcoming foreign investment, he said that the questions raised by international investors and development partners including the double tax system would be addressed.

He said that the process of amending more than a dozen laws has been initiated to create an environment for foreign investment.

He expressed his hope that the UK would increase its investment in Nepal for the sustainable development of the country.
