NEPSE index sees double-digit fall

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 26: The share market witnessed a double-digit fall on Monday. With a significant fluctuation, the NEPSE declined by 17.01 points and closed at 2,031.55 points on Monday, the first trading day of the week. 

The share market was closed on Sunday due to a public holiday. The sensitive index which measures the performance of group ‘A’ companies also decreased by 4.64 points to close at 360.77 points.

With the fall in the NEPSE index, the transaction amount also decreased on Monday as compared to Thursday’s transaction last week. 

A total of 7,061,012 shares worth Rs. 2.48 billion of 304 companies were bought and sold in 44,236 transactions Monday. 

On Thursday last week, a total of 6,781,422 shares worth Rs. 2.97 billion were sold.

According to NEPSE, the sub-indices of banking, others, hydropower, development bank, non-life insurance, finance, microfinance, life insurance and investment declined sharply in today’s transactions. 

Sub-index of the life insurance group posted the highest fall of 100.25 points followed by the microfinance and non-life insurance groups whose indices decreased by 90.62 points and 82.64 points respectively.

Similarly, the sub-index of the development bank group went down by 60.58 points, hydropower by 27.98 points, finance by 16.78 per cent, banking by 13.37 points, others by 9.26 points and investment by 0.27 points.

However, the sub-index of the manufacturing group increased by 147.82 points, hotels and tourism by 23.71 points, trading by 8.73 points and mutual fund by 0.03 points.

The share price of Kisan Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha decreased by 7.15 points, Mandakini Hydropower by 10 per cent, Buddha Bhumi Nepal Hydropower Company by 9.99 per cent and Aatmanirbhar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha by 8.82 per cent.

However, share prices of Bottlers Nepal (Balaju) Limited increased by 10 per cent, Sarbottam Cement Limited by 9.99 per cent and Dhaulagiri Laghubitta Bittiya by 9.66 per cent.
