Campaign to establish Bharatpur as cycle city launched

By A Staff Reporter,Chitwan, Mar. 23: A campaign to establish Bharatpur as a bicycle city has been launched.   The campaign began by organising a cycle rally in Bharatpur on the occasion of Visit Bharatpur Year 2024. 

Pragya Smriti Pratisthan, which organises cycling competitions every year, organised a large cycle rally in Bharatpur, Chitwan, on Friday on the eve of the third edition of the Pragya Memorial Cycling Tournament 2024.

Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City Renu Dahal inaugurated the rally that began from the bank of the Narayani River in Narayangadh, according to Pragya Smriti Pratisthan.

On the occasion, Mayor Dahal said that the metropolis launched the campaign to bring back the old identity of Bharatpur as a bicycle city. 

She said that it was the need of the day to explain the importance of bicycles to the new generation through sports. 

Mayor Dahal said that the collaboration with Pragya Pratisthan to develop cycling sports and produce young athletes by connecting cycling with tourism has proved to be useful for the metropolis. 

She called for everyone's support and cooperation for the campaign as the Bharatpur Visit Year 2024 is a grand campaign for tourism promotion.

The rally organised with the slogan 'Let's Ride Cycle, Save the Environment, Stay Healthy' started from the bank of Narayani River and ended reaching the Narayani river via Aanptari Chowk, Bishal Chowk, Central Bus Terminal, Hakim Chowk, Chaubiskothi, Shahid Chowk and  Pulchowk.

More than 200 bicycle riders participated in the rally. 

Programme Coordinator Santu Darai said that the third edition of Pragya Memorial Cycling Tournament 2024 will be held on March 23 (Saturday) from Ganeshsthan in Bharatpur. 

The competition is going to be held with the support of the Nepal Cycling Association and Chitwan Bicycle Riders Club. The first, second and third of the competition will be presented a prize of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 30,000 respectively.
