APF seizes 164 kg of marijuana

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 21: A patrolling team of the Armed Police Force Nepal has seized 164 kg of marijuana being smuggled to Nepal from India keeping it in a boat in the Saptakoshi River.

Deputy Superintendent of Police and Joint Spokesperson for the Armed Police Force Headquarters Shailendra Thapa said that at 1:35 am on Wednesday, the cannabis brought in a boat was recovered on the banks of the Saptakoshi River in Barahkshetra Municipality-1 of Sunsari.

The Armed Police Force Nepal Security Base Chatara seized the marijuana when some people were unloading marijuana from the boat on the river bank.

When the smugglers came to know that the APF squad had arrived, they left the marijuana there and fled the scene.

The seized marijuana has been handed over to the Area Police Office Mahendranagar, Chakraghatti, for further investigation and action.

DSP Thapa said that the APF team of No. 4 Battalion has so far seized 564.475 kgs of marijuana from February 13 to March 20. Once the police recovered the contraband from an ambulance as well.
