Nepathya performs in Karphok

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 18: Nepathya, the renowned folk rock band, captivated the audience at Karphok school ground of Suryodaya Municipality, Ilam, on Saturday. 

According to a press release issued by Nepalaya, the stage was set in a wide square amidst the green forest of pines at a height of 5,000 feet. 

Hours before the concert began, the Mechi Highway passing through Karphok was already bustling with activities, read the press statement. 

At exactly 6 o'clock in the evening, singer Amrit Gurung took the stage, kicking off the event with the popular song ‘Koshiko Pani Yo Jindgani’.

 Attendees like Jitendra Rasaili, who travelled from Darjeeling, expressed their joy at Nepathya’s visit, marking it as a special occasion.

Mayor Ran Bahadur Rai conveyed New Year’s wishes, considering Nepathya’s presence a celebratory opportunity. 

The municipality, famed for its tea plantation, covering over 60 per cent of its area, annually produces more than 5 million kilos of tea, showcasing its unique flavours to the world.

During the concert, singer Amrit, describing the beauty of Ilam, remembered poet Bhupi Sherchan’s old words, ‘If I could, I would take a little bit of Ilam and spread it all over the country.’

 Singer Gurung also emphasised the importance of understanding their geography and society while performing. 

Organised by the Ilam Gurung Samaj in support of the Nyupi Tharpa Choling Monastery’s construction in Gadhithumka, the event drew around 5,000 audience, according to Hari Gurung, the organiser.

Nepathya mesmerised the crowd with a repertoire of 17 songs, including hits like ‘Resham’, ‘Talako Pani’, and ‘Rato Ra Chandrasurya’.

 Amrit Gurung was supported by Dhruv Lama on drums, Subin Shakya on bass guitar, Niraj Gurung on guitar, Shanti Rayamajhi on Madal, and Dineshraj Regmi on keyboard.

 Following this concert in Ilam, Nepathya is scheduled to perform in Birtamod, Jhapa, on New Year’s Eve.
