By Our Correspondent,Mahottari, Mar. 17: President Ramchandra Paudel pointed out the necessity to restructure the character of the country. Speaking at the unveiling of Martyr Keshav Koirala’s statue in Matihani Municipality of Mahottari district on Saturday, he said, “We have restructured the state. State power has reached the people at the provincial and local levels, but the character is yet to be restructured.”
Stating that the centralised authority was yet to be delegated to the lower levels, he said that implementing such a process should not be delayed. President Paudel said that he had urged the federal parliamentarians to quickly draft the law that empowers the provinces according to the spirit of constitution.
Stating that we had achieved a republic which is considered to be the people’s utmost achievement politically, he said that it was yet to be understood and realised. He said that the republic was not only the change of individuals in the government but also the right of the people to join the flow of government power.
On the occasion, the President remembered the leaders who brought the democratic movement to its peak, Ram Narayan Mishra, Saroj Koirala, Mahendra Narayan Nidhi, Keshav Koirala, Bodh Prasad Upadhyay and discussed their contributions and personalities.
Mahanta Thakur, president of Loktantrik Samajwadi Party and a member of the House of Representatives from the Mahottari Constituency No. 3 praised political contributions by Martyr Koirala and urged the President to address the problem caused by the Chure region in the area.
Sambhu Prasad Koirala, brother of Martyr Koirala, informed that a revolving fund would be established in the name of his late brother for the scholarship of the students of Sriram Secondary School and Rajakiya Sanskrit School in Matihani.
President Paudel welcomed by Matihani Municipality Mayor Hari Prasad Mandal also visited Rajakiya Sanskrit School and Laxminarayan Temple.
