By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 28: Salpa Films has informed that its documentary, Dhorpatan: No Winter Holidays, extended its theatrical release to the third week of the month on Friday.
The 79-minute film, released on January 12, had previously been featured at several prestigious film festivals worldwide in 2023.
Over the past 14 days since its release in Kathmandu, ‘Dhorpatan’ has cultivated a diverse and growing audience.
Issuing a press release about the film screening on Friday, Salpa Films informed that cinephiles seeking a fresh experience in Nepali cinema have been drawn to the film- initially out of curiosity and subsequently through positive word-of-mouth recommendations.
Buoyed by this encouraging response, the film’s producers, distributors, and exhibitors have decided to continue its theatrical screenings.
Director and producer Rajan Kathet said, “Initially, our goal was to find an audience for our unique film or somehow persuade them to give it a chance. Now, people are expressing their eagerness not to miss the opportunity to watch it, and that's why we have opted to prolong our theatrical run.”
The film’s production, which commenced in 2019, had its world premiere at Sheffield DocFest, UK, in June 2023.
It then made appearances at the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival in South Korea, capturing the hearts of audiences in India at the Dharamshala International Film Festival and Kolkata International Film Festivals.
In December 2023, the documentary received the Nativa prize at the Alter Nativa Film Awards in Kazakhstan, acknowledging its cultural significance.
Additionally, it was honoured as the Best Documentary at the Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival 2023.
