EU commits to support 16th Plan implementation

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 23:Ambassador of the European Union Delegation to Nepal Veronique Lorenzo met with Dr. Min Bahadur Shrestha, Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Nepal. On Monday, Ambassador Lorenzo had a courtesy meeting with Vice-Chairman Shrestha at the commission office in Singha Durbar.

During the meeting, the issues of the 16th Plan being prepared by the Commission, the impact on trade of Nepal and the EU after upgrading Nepal from LDCs to developing countries, and the multi-sector nutrition programme were discussed, according to a press statement issued by the NPC.

The Vice-Chairman Shrestha thanked the EU for its support. Stating that the 16th Plan is being prepared by taking suggestions from all sectors, he said that the plan will be formulated so as to achieve the target. 

The Vice-Chairman and EU Ambassador Lorenzo also discussed the impact on trade with the European Union and the measures to compensate for it. She said that the EU will help for the green economy and minimize infrastructure gap in Nepal. 

Ambassador Lorenzo said that the EU prioritises cooperation and support for human capital (quality education) and the implementation of Nepal's good governance and federalism. She has expressed her commitment to support Nepal for the 16th plan as well as multi-sector nutrition programme. 

In the context that Nepal is upgrading from a least developed country to a developing country in 2026, she also suggested that Nepal should do its homework to continue the facilities it is getting from the international community.
