Simkot Airport set to extend runway

blog

By Our Correspondent,Humla, Jan. 21: The Simkot branch of the Civil Aviation Authority has initiated land acquisition process for the expansion of Simkot Airport.  The commencement of this crucial phase follows the publication of information, including details about the area on the west side of the airport proposed for acquisition.

Mahendra Bahadur Singh, Airport Chief, confirmed that the preliminary steps for acquiring 60,000 acres of land on the west side have been officially declared. Singh explained that a preliminary notice has been issued to inform the landowners about the impending acquisition, and soon the names of the landowners and the specific areas under consideration will be published in a national newspaper.

The proposed expansion is expected to add 150 metres to the current airport's land, thereby extending the length from 750 to 850 metres. This enhancement is anticipated to accommodate forty-five-seater aircraft, a notable improvement from the current capacity that limits landings to smaller fourteen- to eighteen-seater planes.

The expansion aims to alleviate the pressure on air passengers, particularly during peak tourist seasons, when Simkot Airport experiences air traffic congestion.
