By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 2: The Red Suitcase, which has travelled to various prestigious film festivals worldwide, is now set to be released in the cinema halls. Announcing a film poster on the occasion of the New Year, the production unit announced the film's release date.
The film is set to hit the cinema halls on April 12.
Directed by Fidel Devkota, the story is narrated against the setting of myths, immigrant traditions and the destiny of Nepal.
The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September last year and garnered two important awards.
Since then, it has been selected at the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival in Germany, the Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland, and the Mumbai Film Festival in India, all considered one of the oldest film festivals in the world.
Producer Ram Krishna Pokharel said that the film has received a lot of love from foreign audiences, prompting them to screen the film with the expectation of a similar level of love from the domestic audience.
Director Fidel Devkota said that the film is a mirror of contemporary society and tries to explore the unyielding issues prevalent in society.
The movie received the Honourable Mention Award at the ‘Fondazione Fai Persona Lavoro Ambiente’ category during the Venice Film Festival.
Additionally, the independent critics’ jury awarded the Best Feature Film Award to director Fidel Devkota as a debut director under the ‘Bisato d'Oro’ category at the same film festival.
The film also won the Best Debut Feature Film award at the recently concluded Jaffna International Cinema Festival in Sri Lanka. The film featured artists like Saugat Malla, Bipin Karki, Prabin Khatiwada and Srishti Shrestha.
