Social values main basis for laws related to social sites: Minister Sharma

Kathmandu, Dec 20: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, has said that Nepali norms and values are the minimum basis for the use of social networking sites.     

At an interaction with stakeholders on formulation of laws related to social networking sites in Nepal organised by the Ministry here on Wednesday, Minister Sharma pointed out the need of formulating laws related to use of social sites making the social norms and values as the basis for it.

"It does not mean that social sites should not be used in the era of information technology as it has becoming the lifestyle of the Nepali society.

But formulation of laws has been realized in order to harmonize the use of social sites with values of the Nepali Society. The Ministry has been preparing draft to formulate the laws," she said.     

The Communications Minister viewed that the Nepali society is different than the western society and laid emphasis on the need of keeping the freedom of expression in centre while formulating laws related to social sites.     

Stating that guidelines have already been issued to make the use of social sites systematic, Minister Sharma added the guidelines could be the important basis of laws formulation and self-regulation, awareness and regulation.     

On the occasion, legal practitioners, IT experts and various stakeholders suggested about different aspects to be included in laws related to social sites. (RSS)
