By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 19: The benchmark of the share market index, NEPSE, posted double-digit growth on Monday, the second trading day of the week. The NEPSE index increased by 38.14 points (1.88 per cent) and closed at 2060.49 points on Monday.
Earlier on Sunday, the index increased by 27.75 points. The stock market has been steadily rising for the last few days. The sensitive index which measures the performance of group ‘A’ companies also increased by 9.56 points (2.52 per cent) to close at 390.63 points today. With the increment of the NEPSE index, turnover has also increased significantly.
A total of 21,497,619 shares worth Rs. 6.86 billion of 305 companies were bought and sold in 113,693 transactions today. This turnover is the highest in about a year. On January 10 this year, the NEPSE witnessed a turnover of Rs. 7.29 billion.
The daily turnover has also been increasing over the past few days. On Sunday, shares worth Rs. 5.10 billion were sold. According to NEPSE, the sub-indices of all groups, except hydropower increased on Sunday.
The sub-index of the microfinance group posted the highest growth of 197.02 points followed by hotels and tourism and manufacturing and processing groups whose indices increased by 179.50 points and 146.49 points respectively. Similarly, the sub-index of the life-insurance group went up by 105.78 points, development bank by 73.13 points, finance by 46.81 points, others by 25.53 points and banking by 24.45 points.
The sub-index of the trading group increased by 24.08 points, non-life insurance by 13.53 points, investment by 2.28 points and mutual fund by 0.31 points. However, the sub-index of hydropower saw a drop of 7.83 points in today's transaction. In today's transactions, the share prices of 199 companies increased while the share prices of only 87 companies declined.
Share prices of six companies, including Bottlers Nepal (Balaju) Limited, Surya Jyoti Life Insurance Company and Swarojgar Laghu Bitta Bikas Bank rose by 10 per cent in today’s transaction. The share price of Jeevan Bikas Laghubitta Bittya Sanstha, BPW Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha and Hathway Investment Nepal increased by 10 per cent.
Similarly, the share price of Muktinath Krishi Company and Nerude Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha increased by 9.99 per cent while the share price of Dhaulagiri Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha rose by 9.89 per cent. However, the share price of Himalayan Power Partners decreased by 7.86 per cent, Dolti Power Company by 6.57 per cent and Upper Syange Hydropower by 5.39 per cent.
