Party volunteers build 3,720 temporary houses in Rukum West

By Raju Lamichhane,Rukum West, Dec. 16: At least 3,750 temporary houses have been constructed for earthquake victims in Rukum West.

Volunteers mobilised by various political parties have constructed 3,720 temporary housing across the district. 

Deputy General Secretary of the Maoist Centre, Janardan Sharma, said that his party played a significant role in constructing temporary shelters throughout the district.Former Finance Minister and a member of the House of Representatives Sharma said, “The Maoist Centre has built 3,168 temporary housing by mobilising 3,000 volunteers.”

According to Sharma, the Maoist Centre has constructed 1305 temporary housing in Aaathbiskot Municipality, 854 in Sanibheri Rural Municipality, 607 in Chaurjahari Municipality, 307 in Triveni Rural Municipality, 24 in Musikot Municipality and 71 in Banfikot Rural Municipality. 

The volunteers of CPN-UML have constructed 345 temporary houses in Rukum West.  District president Nandaram Devkota said, “The CPN-UML  mobilised 300 volunteers  and  constructed 189 temporary houses in Aathbiskot, 58 in Sanibheri, 86 in Chaurjahari and 12 in Banfikot.” 

Also eight temporary toilets and 26 temporary learning centres were constructed by the volunteers of CPN-UML.

Similarly, the volunteers of Nepali Congress have constructed 75 temporary houses for the quake victims. 

NC district president Prem Prakash Oli said, “The volunteers of NC have constructed 25 temporary houses in Sanivbheri and 50 in Aathabiskot.”

Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN has so far completed the construction of 65 temporary housing. Chandra Budha, the central member of the party, said that after completing the construction of 65 houses in different wards of Aathabiskot, they have handed them over to the quake victims.

More than 50 temporary houses are constructed in Aathbiskot and Sanibheri, by mobilising 300 volunteers under the leadership of central member of CPN (Unified Socialist) Party and Vice President of Karnali Province Thagendra Prakash Puri.

Rastriya Swatantra Party has constructed 17 temporary houses by mobilising 30 volunteers. 

Man Bahadur Shahi, head of the Karnali Province Policy and Planning Department said, “Rastriya Swatantra Party mobilised 30 volunteers and constructed 10 temporary shelters in Aathbishkot and seven temporary shelters in Senibheri.”

For the construction of temporary housing, the District Administration Office is sending the first installment amount. 

Assistant Chief district Officer Prabesh Badhuwal informed that Rs. 47.83 million has been sent to the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Fund. About 19,134 beneficiaries would receive Rs. 25,000 each as the first instalment.
