NA Chair Timilsina for investment in child clubs

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 6:National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina has expressed his confidence that the youth who joined the club today have the potential to become the Prime Minister by the age of 40. 

Speaking at the second National Conference of Child Club Graduates organised by Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal (JCYCN) on Tuesday, Timilsina, said that it was necessary to increase investment in child clubs to prevent Nepali youths from going abroad. 

"This gathering of former members of the Child Club has given a message that if investment in children can be increased, skilled manpower can be produced in the country," he said. 

Stating that the government has been unable to make sufficient investments in children,  he said that children should be prioritised while receiving compensation for climate change. 

He also said that it was important to invest in children's nutrition. 

Bam Bahadur Baniya, Vice President of the National Child Rights Council, said that the government was committed to cooperating with the former members of the child clubs to end various forms of violence against children.

Usha Mishra, chief of the Social Policy Department of UNICEF, said that UNICEF was ready to contribute to the production of skilled youth by increasing investment in child clubs and promoting children's rights. 

The country has invested in social security and has given less priority to children, she said and urged  the government to give priority to children while formulating policies. 

Roslyn Gabriel, National Director, Nepal at World Vision, said that policies and plans are needed to priorities children and that World Vision was ready to support Nepali children. This conference should be organised nationwide as campaign to obtain more effective results, she said. 

In the two- day's second National Level Conference of Child Club Graduates Conference 150 youth aged between 18 and 25 years, who graduated from the  Child Club discussed nine thematic issues.

At present, more than 3,000 children's clubs are active all over the country. More than 8 million children are associated with the child clubs. 

Tilottam Poudel, president of JCYCN, said that they had a  goal to organise a national conference of former members of the Children's Club every year at the federal and provincial levels.
