‘Security should be strengthened for country’s prosperity’

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 17: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that the internal security system should be strengthened for country’s prosperity, development and good governance. 

Addressing a function organised on the occasion of the 68th Nepal Police Day on Monday at the Police Headquarters, Naxal, DPM Shrestha said that the role played by Nepal Police for country’s internal security is commendable. Citizens have fully exercised rule of law, good governance and prosperity because of the service delivered by Nepal Police.

DPM Shrestha mentioned that the dedication of the police personnel deployed for the security of the country is a source of inspiration for citizens of every generation. They have carried out their duties keeping aside their personal and family obligations to ensure safety of the citizens. 

He said that despite the lack of resources Nepal Police have been delivering fast, efficient and quality service by effectively shouldering up the responsibilities entrusted by the state with utmost sincerity and integrity.

“Each and every member of the Nepal Police has been working with high morale in their professional duty to neutralise every adverse situation faced by the citizens and the state,” claimed DPM Shrestha. 

He also emphasised that Nepal Police should be in a state of readiness to be able to successfully investigate and prevent crimes by increasing vigilance towards the new pattern of crimes that are surging due to the latest inventions and technologies.

DPM Shrestha said, “A fair investigation ensures justice to the victims and helps to end impunity.”

“I have full faith that Nepal Police conducts impartial investigation without being pressurised or influenced by any interest or power centre,” he said. 

DPM Shrestha paid tribute to those policemen who received martyrdom while delivering their service and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured police personnel. 

Embracing the selfless service and unwavering dedication of the Nepal Police, he said that the government is with the families of the policemen who received martyrdom in the course of protecting the country and citizens.

Inspector General of Nepal Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar instructed all police officers to focus on projecting citizen-friendly organisational image. 

Before the formal beginning of the function, DPM Shrestha attended a wreath-laying ceremony standing at the Martyr Police Memorial inside the police headquarters and also presented certificates of appreciation to the families of the policemen who gained martyrdom in the line of duty in the year 2080 B.S.  

DPM Shrestha also launched the Police Day-2080 souvenir and the list of land donors who provided land free of cost to the Nepal Police as well as the information booklet of the revolving fund established for the police.

At the event, the chairperson of Nepal Police Wives Association, Laxmi Kunwar, extended cordial support to the families of martyr policemen.
