Nepali chef Basnet receives Int’l Golden Hat Award

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 11: Nepali Chef Suresh Chandra Basnet has received the ‘International Golden Hat Award 2023’ from Royal Bengal Master Chef Organisation, Kolkata.  

Basnet was honoured with this prestigious award in West Bengal, India during the South Asian International Culinary Art Competition 2023 held recently in Kolkata.

According to the organisation, Basnet won this award based on the multiple rounds of selection process held among master chefs of different countries. This award is the honour for his significant contributions to preserving, promoting, and commercialising indigenous Nepali cuisines through his professional, social, and academic works.

In the absence of Basnet, the award was received by his representative during the event organised in Kolkata. Currently, Basnet is working at a restaurant in California, USA.

Basnet, who is currently the president of Gastronomy Tourism Association of Nepal, has been actively serving the field of Nepali culinary arts as a working chef, instructor, researcher, and campaigner for the last more than two decades.

Based on his extensive research and experiences in the field of Nepali gastronomy, Basnet has recently published two books entitled ‘Nepali Cook Book: The Taste of Himalaya’ and ‘Nepali Gastronomy Book’.

Similarly, another Nepali chef Ram Thapa won the ‘International Silver Hat’ of the Royal Bengal Master Chef Organisation for 2023.
