Over half a dozen Nepali films selected for Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 10: Over half a dozen Nepali films have been selected for the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. In the public lineup on Monday, over half a dozen films involving Nepali producers, and directors have been selected for the festival. 

 ‘The Red Suitcase’ by Fidel Devkota,  ‘Gurans’ by Saurav Rai and ‘Bahadur – The Brave’ by Diwa Shah have been selected under the South Asia Competition category.  Likewise, ‘Chiso Ghar’ (A Bleak Home) by Bidushi Giri, ‘Helena’ by Ayarush Paudel and  ‘Windhorse’ by Sunil Gurung have been selected under the short film category. 

‘Gau Ayeko Bato’ (A Road to a Village) by Nabin Subba was selected under the Icons South Asia category, this section features only iconic films by prominent South Asian filmmakers. The festival will feature 250 films including 40 world premieres, 45 Asia premieres and 70 South Asia premieres.

The 10-day festival, organised by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI), will open with red carpet event at NMACC on October 27 and run until November 5, with the awards ceremony being held on November 3.   After a three-year hiatus, the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival is returning with a larger lineup and an expanded focus on South Asian cinema.
