By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 9: Nepal Police has launched a special security plan targeting the upcoming festivals of Dashain, Tihar and Chhath, effective from Sunday.

Deputy Inspector General and spokesperson for the Nepal Police Headquarters, Naxal, Kuber Kadayat said that a total of 50,530 policemen have been deployed across the country under the Special Security Plan.

According to DIG Kadayat, keeping in mind the security weakness of the past festivals, all the police units including the central security plan, have prepared security plans to overcome security challenges.

Stating that the security plan has been made stricter and more effective, DIG Kadayat said that police officers of the Battalion and Company would be mobilised as reserve forces.

“Nepal police have discouraged the public from posting pictures before leaving for Dashain vacation, as it reveals that their house is empty,” said DIG Kadayat.

More criminal activities occur during the festivals, he said, and strongly urged everyone to be vigilant and report suspicious activities occurring in one’s neighbourhood, immediately to the nearest police unit or toll-free number 100.

The Police Headquarters has issued a circular to implement the special security plan targeted at the festival from Sunday in the police units across the country.

“With the implementation of the Special Security Plan, the police will be deployed round the clock to identify potential risk areas and prevent criminal activities including theft and smuggling,” said spokesperson Kadayat.

Over 5,000 police personnel deployed in the Valley

Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, has said that more than 5,000 security personnel are ready to be deployed in the Valley alone to control any possible unwanted incidents during the festival.

Senior Superintendent of Police and Spokesperson for the Valley Police Office, Dinesh Raj Mainali said that compared to previous years, this time the office has increased the number of security personnel by 1500-2,000 to maintain peace and order during the upcoming festivals.

“Regular security checking like patrolling on foot, motorcycling and vehicles have been increased. Plainclothes policemen have been deployed in the public and long-route vehicles to control cheating, and theft and keep the vehicles under surveillance,” said SSP Mainali.

SSP Mainali said “General people are requested to inform the police of their areas and wards when they have to leave their house and keep their valuable belongings in a bank locker.”
