By Our Correspondent,Hile, Oct. 7: With the approach of festivals, including Dashain, local administration Dhankuta has intensified market monitoring.
Under the leadership of District Administration Office, Dhankuta, Food Technology and Quality Control Division Office, Cottage and Small Industry Office, Dhankuta and National Consumer Federation, Dhankuta jointly conducted the monitoring.
The monitoring team has started to inspect wholesale and retail shops related to food, fuel, clothing, fish, meat, vegetables and fruits, among others.
Chief District Officer, Dhankuta Punya Bikram Paudel said that they have intensified the festival targeted market monitoring as traders charge arbitrary prices and sell expired non-edible items.
At the same time, the team has monitored retail and grocery stores in Sidhuwa Bazar located in Chhatharjorpati Rural Municipality-6 of Dhankuta.
Over half a dozen retail and grocery stores in the market were monitored and non-edible goods worth Rs. 55,000 were destroyed.
The expired food items were found in most of the retail and grocery stores in the market.
The non-edible food items have been confiscated and destroyed in the presence of local people’s representatives and police.
Similarly, during the monitoring, these shops were advised and warned not to sell non-edible food items in the coming days, said Ankit Magrati, chief administrative officer of the district administration office.
He said that they would also inspect other shops in Dhankuta.
