Shah elected UML’s Karnali Provincial chair

By Our Correspondent,Surkhet, Oct. 4: The first provincial convention of the main opposition CPN-UML has elected leaders from Karnali Province. Gulabjung Shah has been elected the chief of the Karnali province committee of the party.  

In an election held on Sunday, Shah defeated his competitor Min Bahadur Shahi by 162 votes. According to the party, Shah received 369 votes against Shahi’s 207 whereas Prakash Rokaya, another candidate of the party's provincial chair received only four votes. 

Likewise, Tek Raj Pachhai has been elected vice-chairman of the provincial committee securing 342 votes while his nearest rival received 176 votes. 

Similarly, Dhurba Kumar Shahi has been elected as secretary with 406 votes, while his nearest competitor received 169 votes.  In the same way, Rabindra Raj Sharma and Ramesh Bahadur Shahi have been elected as under-secretary. 

The first provincial convention of the party kicked off last Wednesday. The election took place only on Sunday after failing to select leadership unanimously. 

Total of 609 votes were cast in the election. 

After completing the vote counting of the posts of office bearers, the counting of the votes of the provincial committee members is currently underway. 

Elections were held for 81 posts, including officer bearers of the provincial committee, with 48 members elected unopposed.
