The agonizing tapping in the head can be quite debilitating. There are many factors, including stress and lack of moisture in the body that can become their sources. The expert of the medical portal The Sun, Dr. Earim Chaudhry, shared six effective methods to combat headaches.
The specialist explained that chemical activity in the brain can trigger headaches. "Very often the nerves, the blood vessels around the skull and the muscles of the head and neck can play a role in causing pain," he explained. In addition, bothersome headaches can be the result of emotional stress, infections, fevers, colds, and even dehydration. According to the doctor, switching from a mobile phone to a TV or computer is not a real vacation. The brain and eyes need to be given a real rest, which excludes the impact of screens that emit blue light. This type of light contributes to sleep disturbance.
"The brain functions to constantly re-focus the eye muscles between distant and near objects on the screen. This constant movement of the eyes can cause tension and fatigue leading to headaches," he explained. To reduce the negative impact of screens, special tools that block blue light will help. Goggles and films help reduce exposure to blue light, which in turn reduces the risk of headaches as well as eye fatigue and irritation.
Skipping meals for a long time can lead to low blood sugar levels, explained Dr. Chaudhry. This, in turn, causes the body to release hormones that signal hunger to the brain. These same hormones can increase blood pressure and constrict blood vessels, which can cause headaches. It may seem unexpected, but slouching at a table or on a couch can be a source of pain in the head.
"Tension in the upper back, neck, and shoulders can trigger a headache, which most often throbs at the base of the skull and sometimes spreads to the face, especially the forehead. To reduce headaches, it is worth paying attention to your posture, avoiding prolonged sitting in one position and doing it regularly short walks," the expert advised. Although it may seem obvious, the use of painkillers acts on the body's cells, nerve endings, nervous system, and brain to relieve the sensation of pain. “Studies show that aspirin is the best over-the-counter pain reliever, and ibuprofen is also effective in relieving pain. It is best to take painkillers with food or a glass of milk, as taking without food can irritate the stomach lining,” the doctor explained.
Severe headaches or prolonged pain should be a signal to seek medical attention. Provocateurs can be different for each person. According to the doctor, certain foods and drinks can contribute to headaches and, in particular, migraines. "This includes nitrate-containing processed foods, aged cheeses, pickled and fermented foods, salty foods, caffeine, alcohol, chocolate and artificial sweeteners. All of these foods contain chemicals that can cause headaches through various bodily reactions," he warned. .
Regular exercise helps keep the body and mind healthy and promotes better circulation, which can reduce the risk of headaches, Dr. Chaudhry noted. "Moderate physical activity, such as brisk walking or cycling for 30 minutes a day, especially in fresh air, can maintain oxygen flow to the body and reduce the risk of pain," he concluded.
