By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 24: Sakina Maharjan from Naya Naikap, Chandragiri Municipality, has won the 17th ‘Nepal Telecom Miss Newa: Nepal 1143’ title.
She was declared winner at a grand finale held at Nepal Academy on Tuesday.
Organised by Nepalese Fashion Home, Maharjan bagged the title leaving 16 participants behind and won the cash prize of Rs. 100,000.
Sakina also won the ‘Miss Personality’ title.
Ridhisha Shrestha of Mhepi, Kathmandu, and Minasha Maharjan of Dallu, were declared the first and second runners-up respectively.
While Ridhisha bagged the ‘Miss Public Choice’ title and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, Minasha got Rs. 15,000.
The 17th edition of this beauty pageant was graced by numerous dignitaries.
Among them was Miss Newa: Nepal 1131 and Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol.
According to Hema Manandhar, the chairperson of Nepalese Fashion Home, the event has been organised for 18 years, celebrating and preserving Newari art, language, traditions and culture.
Deputy Mayor Dangol emphasised the significance of the title ‘Miss Newa’ and praised the platform for its role in nurturing not just an understanding of Newari heritage but also fostering personal growth and self-assurance.
