By Govinda Sharma,Banke, July20: Bheri Hospital is often crowded with patients seeking medical attention. According to the hospital administration, the number of patients visiting the hospital has been on the rise since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Badri Chapagain, medical superintendent of Bheri Hospital, informed that more patients started visiting the health centre after the pandemic as the people came to know about the quality service provided by the hospital.

"Those receiving treatment at the hospital during the pandemic were happy with the services. Since the pandemic, the number of visitors has been on the rise," said Dr. Chapagain.

According to the hospital, 180,432 patients visited the hospital in the fiscal year 2021/22. Of them, 140,733 sought Outpatient Department (OPD) services and 28,572 sought emergency services.

"The number of patients visiting the Inpatient Department (IPD) was small as there is a limited number of beds," he added.

Similarly, 25 per cent of the total visitors utilised the government's health insurance scheme. The hospital informed that 46,632 patients paid their bills through the scheme.

Likewise, 5,596 deliveries through the caesarean section and 3,990 normal deliveries were performed within the fiscal year.

Bheri Hospital has been providing health services related to medicine, surgery, gynaecology, paediatrics, ENT, dermatology, orthopaedics, dental, mental and neuro.

The hospital is mostly visited by patients from different districts of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim Provinces alongside neighbouring districts of Uttar Pradesh, India.

Meanwhile, the hospital is also constructing a new and advanced OPD building to meet the need of the increasing number of patients.

"The number of beds is also being increased to 350 from 150. We have demanded a new building as the old one is in a dilapidated condition," said Dr. Chapagain.
