Maisang Danda being turned into tea garden

By Our Correspondent,Khotang, July 10: Diprung Chuichumma Rural Municipality of Khotang has started converting Maisang Danda in Chhitapokhari of Ward No. 6 into a tea garden. The rural municipality has planted 7,000 tea plants on about 40 ropanis of land. 

Sumnina Paruhang Park in Maisang Danda is a tourist destination with a view of mountains and plains mostly visited by internal tourists. Chairman Lokendra Rai said that they were creating a tea garden to attract external tourists and provide employment to the locals in agriculture. The work was being carried out under Prime Minister Employment Programme and the rural municipality will further add tea plants in the future, he added.

Chairman Rai informed that the rural municipality had bought plants and fertilizers from Rs. 400,000 which was allocated by the rural municipality of the current fiscal year.  

The rural municipality is also planning to expand the tea garden by taking remaining private lands on lease. It believes that the tea garden would help to bring in domestic as well as external tourists in the future.
