Lalita Niwas land scam to be investigated as organised crime

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 5: The Kathmandu District Court has given permission to investigate into those accused in the case of Lalita Niwas land scam also as an organised crime. 

The District Court, Kathmandu on Tuesday allowed the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police to investigate the case as an organised crime in addition to those involved in the scam.

Last week, the Bureau got permission from the court to conduct an investigation against those involved in the scam in relation to the violation of the National Code, 1963. Since then, nine persons have been arrested as of Monday (July 3).

With this permission of the court, ways have been paved against accused to be investigated for the case under organised crime and forgery of official documents. 

The investigation should be completed within 25 days in the case of forgery and the case should be brought to the court within the day. However, in organised crime, 60-day time period is available to investigate and file the case.

Dinesh Acharya, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the Bureau, said that the court on Tuesday allowed additional seven days remand order to the Bureau for further investigation against them. 

“The court has extended seven days remand order to investigate the crime on Tuesday,” Acharya said. Earlier, the Bureau had got seven days’ permission to investigate the forgery of official documents.
